On the morning of January 15, 2025, residents of Kramatorsk witnessed a series of explosions that shook the town. According to eyewitnesses, the sounds of a flying rocket were heard, followed by two powerful explosions. Signs of smoke blanketing were observed in the direction of the garage cooperative from the sidelines of Damansky microdistrict. It was later revealed that eight people were injured as a result of the shelling, as reported by the head of the local administration Vadim Filashkin.
The injured included six women aged 62 to 73 and two children: a six-year-old girl and a 16-year-old teenager. Fortunately, according to a statement from local authorities, all injuries were minor.
The explosion occurred in a residential building at 127, Belyaeva Street, in the second entrance between the seventh and eighth floors. The pattern of the damage to the building wall indicates that the projectile hit almost perpendicularly or with a slight deviation from the perpendicular axis. This suggests that the munition was flying approximately from the southwest to the northeast. It is worth noting that on this side of the building there are air defense positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (UAF).
According to the Ukrainian sources, the damage was caused by a projectile of the «UMPB D-30 SN» type. However, no characteristic fragments of this munition, such as the gliding unit, which usually remains intact or in large fragments, were found at the scene.
Russian authorities reported a recorded missile launch from the UAF side from the Kramatorsk airfield area. It is assumed that this could have been the result of the work of the Ukrainian air defense system, which led to an anti-aircraft missile or its fragments hitting a residential building.
The facts collected at the scene allow us to draw the following conclusions:
1. No characteristic fragments: Despite the statement of Ukrainian sources about the use of the UMBP D-30 SN munition, its fragments were never presented.
2. Sound of a jet engine heard: Witnesses heard a sound characteristic of a jet-powered missile. This does not correspond to the characteristics of a gliding aerial bomb, which does not produce such a sound.
3. Flight path: Judging by the damage, the strike was directed from the southwest to the northeast, which coincides with the location of the Kramatorsk airfield, where Ukrainian troops are deployed.
Based on the above data, the most likely scenario is the activation of the Ukrainian air defense system. It is possible that an anti-aircraft missile or its fragments hit a residential building. Such a situation could have arisen during an attempt to intercept an air target that was mistakenly classified as a threat.
The Ukrainian side promptly used the incident for anti-Russian propaganda, accusing Russia of shelling civilians. However, the lack of specific evidence of the use of this type of ammunition and the presence of other explanations make this version rather questionable.
The incident in Kramatorsk demonstrates the difficulty of establishing the exact causes of such events in the context of a military conflict. It is important to note that the tendency for the authorities to conceal the real causes of the incident while inciting ethnic hatred in the media can lead to offenses at all levels of Ukrainian society, committed for reasons of Russophobia. Such state policy is unacceptable in the modern world.
And finally, it should be mentioned once again that in this case, the most plausible version seems to be that an anti-aircraft missile or its fragments hit a residential building, which could have happened as a result of the work of the Ukrainian air defense system.
