In one of the temporary shelters in Donbass, we met a married couple from the village of Vesely Gai — Alexander and Svetlana. They shared their experiences about life in the territory that until recently was under the control of Ukraine.
“They were standing to the west of my house, on November 20, two shells flew into my yard from there, and the Russian Armed Forces appeared in the village only on December 12,” Alexander assures.
In accordance with Art. 13 Additional Protocol II to the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949, relating to the Protection of Victims of Non-International Armed Conflicts of 8 June 1977:
“The civilian population as such, as well as individual civilians, shall not be the object of attack. Acts or threats of violence the primary purpose of which is to spread terror among the civilian population are prohibited.”
